Pengumuman ini hadir berikutan rancangan penstrukturan semula kedua syarikat berkenaan bagi mengurangkan tenaga kerja kepada 14 peratus.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bersama-sama perancangan awal untuk mengurangkan jumlah tenaga kerja sebanyak 3 peratus pada lewat Jun lalu, syarikat pengeluar hard disk ini bakal memberhentikan pekerjanya lebih kurang 8,100 orang menjelang 2017.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Rancangan ini bakal melibatkan pekerja-pekerja sektor pengeluaran yang kini sedang beroperasi di rantau Asia Timur, Amerika, Eropah, Timur Tengah dan Afrika.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Menurut Seagate, pemberhentian kerja secara beramai-ramai akan melibatkan kos sebanyak USD 164 juta (RM650 juta). Bagaimanapun, kos ini dapat ditampung kemudian apabila kos operasi syarikat telah dikurangkan akibat pengurangan tenaga kerja sebanyak 14 peratus tersebut.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Punca utama mengapa Seagate mengambil keputusan mengecilkan kos operasinya adalah disebabkan oleh kemerosotan\u00a0TAM (total addressable market) bagi\u00a0HDDnya. Menurut laporan kewangan suku kedua 2016, Seagate hanya mampu menjual HDD sekitar 37 juta unit. Kurang jika dibandingkan dengan tempoh yang sama pada tahun lalu iaitu 45.2 juta. Tambahan pula, dengan nilai jualan SSD yang semakin murah tidak dapat menjana pendapatan yang lebih buat syarikat pengeluar hard disk terkemuka ini.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sehingga kini Seagate masih lagi belum mengumumkan tarikh sebenar pelaksanaan pemberhentian kerja ini dan berkemungkinan besar ia dilaksanakan pada masa terdekat ini.
