Kini, organisasi yang memperkenalkan piawaian tersebut, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), telah mengumumkan piawaian baharu 802.11bb.<\/p>\n<p>Ia bukanlah piawaian WiFi baharu, sebaliknya ia adalah untuk LiFi atau nama penuhnya Light Fidelity.<\/p>\n<p>Pastinya, LiFi diperkenalkan bukan untuk menggantikan WiFi. Ia berperanan sebagai alternatif atau melengkapkan teknologi sedia ada. Sebagaimana namanya, teknologi ini menggunakan spektrum cahaya berbanding spektrum radio yang kini semakin sesak penggunaannya. Selain itu, spektrum cahaya boleh nampak lebih 10,000 kali ganda lebih lebar berbanding spektrum frekuensi radio.<\/p>\n<p>Secara ringkasnya, penggunaan teknologi ini memerlukan sesebuah fotodiod untuk menerima dan memancarkan isyarat melalui cahaya dan sumber cahaya seperti sebuah cahaya LED yang dilengkapkan dengan satu cip pemprosesan isyarat.<\/p>\n<p>Lampu LED berkenaan dibuat berkelip pada kelajuan yang amat pantas untuk dikesan oleh mata manusia bagi tujuan penghantaran data ke fotodiod. Melalui cara ini, data boleh dipindahkan pada kadar kelajuan sehingga 224Gbps atau bersamaan 100 kali ganda lebih pantas dari WiFi.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AKvvEqm9Nv4?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=ms-MY&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Walaubagaimanapun, LiFi mempunyai masalahnya yang tersendiri. Salah satunya ia amat mudah terganggu dari cahaya lain atas sifat cahaya itu sendiri. Ini termasuklah dari cahaya matahari yang menyebabkannya tidak sesuai apabila digunakan di luar pada waktu siang. Malah kaedah ini juga boleh menjadi penyebab kepada pencemaran cahaya kerana perlu mengatasi masalah interferens.<\/p>\n<p>Tambahan pula, disebabkan cahaya bergerak di dalam garis lurus, isyarat pemancar dan penerimanya perlu berada di dalam garis pemerhatian. Oleh itu pemancar dan penerimanya mungkin lebih banyak diperlukan untuk melengkapkan liputan sesebuah penghala (router) WiFi.
